Have you started a new job where the boss, and seemingly everyone around you, just expects you to be able to use Microsoft Office? Have you entered Further Education for Adults and need to write reports and letters that look tidy and professional, but you’ve never had to do it before and the tools are overwhelming? Are you running your own business but find that it is taking you ages to write a simple letter in Word, organise your email in Outlook, create a presentation in PowerPoint, or crunch numbers in Excel? If the answer is “yes” to any of these, read on, then call James on 086 3804373 to talk about Microsoft Office Tutorials.
Grinds for Grown Ups? Really James?
Yes! Not just personal tuition, but personalised, customised, focused, patient, one to one lessons in your own home. When you’re working or managing kids, or both at the same time, it is close to impossible to find the time to sit through a long, generic, course on how to use computers. For some, it can even be embarrassing to sit in a classroom full of people that seem to be able to do everything faster than you. As often as not, you walk out of the classroom with a head spinning, full of “training” on tools and functions that you will never use… and you forget the crucial bits that you do need to know!
Occasionally you just wish that somebody would sit with you and calmly walk you through the parts of the programs or applications that you need to know, without overwhelming you with a lot of technobabble and force feeding you information that you will never use.
Why should I trust you? How do I know if you’re any good?
Good questions! Well, DeGeekIT is a local one-man business based in Ratoath, Co. Meath. It was launched by me, James Blackwell, in July 2017. It’s fair to say that I’ve been around the IT industry for quite a while and since the early ’90s, I’ve been a heavy Microsoft Office user. Perhaps one of the biggest differences between me and many other techies, is my ability to turn a technical subject into simple to understand language, and to explain things patiently – at a digestible speed.
But don’t just listen to me. These are some of the recommendations and testimonials that I’ve been given:
Testimonials & Recommendations
“It is rare that you come across a patient and extremely competent technical person as James. After solving a technical issue, he can start from the very basics if needed for the benefit of the audience while ensuring that the information is provided in the simplest way possible.
With the IT services being provided by James coupled with his trustworthiness, you can rest assured that you will be in good hands.”“I’ve been working with James for the last 10+ years and there are few pleasures I look forward to more. James is an incredibly astute and patient leader, focused on the individual needs of those he works with. He knows how to ask questions that help sharpen focus on what’s really happening and why, and he anticipates and mitigates complications before they occur. His geek love for understanding how and why technology works and how to get the most out of it always enlivens our conversation about how much more we can do now with so little effort. And yet he rarely looks for the easy “buy another one” answer to technological problems he encounters. James is exactly the kind of person you want to help explain technology to children or “technologically challenged” adults.”
“James is an extraordinary person. He has a strong work ethic coupled with an amazing mind. The tackles all challenges with skills and enthusiasm. Communicating is easy, but communicating well, takes skill and James has it.
He is able to distill complex information and strategies into simple, memorable terms that everyone can grasp. He was able to tailor anything that he was presenting, to his audience and made us understand even the most complex information and learn from it. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him and I sincerely hope that I get to work with him again someday.”“One of the major strengths of James is his ability to adjust his communication style to his audience. I’ve seen him deliver training to junior people with the same ease as presenting strategic plans to executives. His communication always managed to achieve its goal of getting the message across in the most effective manner.”
“I can highly recommend James and his new venture. If you need tech simplified, explained and fixed he Ian most definitely the right man for the job.
He built the SOUND digital platform and helped to guide it and the hugely disparate users on all thing digital.
Top man.”“James has been solving our computer problems since I met him a couple of years ago. Through his help and teaching we are almost self sufficient.”
“James has helped me with setting up group meetings with very clear instructions in a simple step by step manner and repeating the instructions wherever necessary. His levels of patience and good nature were endless. I am confident to attempt it myself now but feel very secure that I have James as a back up if I need him.”
“James at DeGeekIT is one of the most knowledgeable and patient people I know. You’ll be in great hands with all things from learning the how-tos to fixing complex problems.”
“James offers a super efficient friendly home visit service that I will recommend to anyone having computer issues and needs to learn how to manage PC’s correctly. I learned so much from him regarding safety which will help protect me personally and my pc. Thank you so much James, my PC is doing what it should now thanks to your perseverance and patience both the PC and me!”
“Highly recommend this service Thank you James Blackwell for taking the time to explain everything to a non tech person”
“Excellent technical skills but explained to you in a non-techie language – making the service accessible for everyone. Totally trustworthy service I’d recommend to anyone!”
Personalised Microsoft Office Tuition. How does it work?
- Well, first of all, give me a call on 086 3804373, send me an email using this simple form, or even just go ahead and pick a date and time on my calendar and book a tutorial here.
- I will ask you about what you are wanting to do, or learn in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, or Microsoft Outlook.
- We’ll agree a date and time to meet.
- I will prepare some topics that are specifically relevant to your needs.
- I will come to your home and we will spend approximately 90 minutes per session working together.
- If you are further afield, we can also do the training remotely. We can talk over Skype, Facetime, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp etc. I share my computer screen with you so you can see what I’m talking about.
What you’ll need:
- A desktop computer or laptop
- A working version of the Microsoft Office application that you want to learn more about.
- A place for the two of us to sit together in front of our computers.
- A bit of peace and quiet if possible.
- A pen and paper (yes, I know… old school!)
How much will it cost?
The initial session will cost €80 for approximately 90 minutes, but don’t worry… I won’t be watching the clock. It is important to me that we go at YOUR speed.
Follow up sessions will cost €60 for 90 minutes.
I don’t advise trying to do longer sessions. I tend to find that people zone out and get overloaded when we try to do too much in one go.
When should we meet?
For parents of kids in school, I like to meet during school hours while the kids are out of your hair. If you’ve got younger ones at home though, don’t worry at all… I know what it is like to juggle toddlers and technology, so we’ll fit around nap times, or even have them join in as co-pilots!
If you’re working full time and would prefer to meet in the evening or at the weekend, that’s great too. I’ll try to fit around your schedule to find a time where you’re not too frazzled!
